Video: Top Gear drives a NASCAR
Watch as TG mag’s Jack Rix gets to grips with 700bhp-worth of noise and fear
For Top Gear’s 2016 Speed Week, we corralled together some of the world’s finest – and fastest – performance cars to max out at the daunting Red Bull Ring in Austria.
But for our closing piece, we decided to come over all U S of A. Yup, a drive in an unfiltered, raw, 700bhp NASCAR. Step forward, TG mag deputy editor Jack Rix, instilled not only with excitement, but much, much fear. Especially after an, um, reassuring set of instructions from the boss of the Red Bull Ring’s Driving Experiences.
“OK you’re all set, enjoy yourself out there,” Bernhard Auinger notes, casually.
“Just remember that the brakes aren’t great, plus there’s a lot of front-bias to help with burnouts, and there’s no ABS and no traction control either. Oh, and watch out on the first two laps while the tyres are cold, it will want to oversteer. Everywhere. And it’s a heavy thing so there’s quite a bit of body roll, and the clutch is seriously snatchy – try not to stall…”
Erm, got it, thanks Bernhard.
Hit play above to see how Rix-Rix Jnr got on with a full-blooded NASCAR. You may want to turn it up nice and loud.
