Subaru Impreza news - Gas mark three - 2008
How hot would you like your Impreza, sir?
Prodrive is showing off versions of Subaru's hatch at the London Motor Show in three flavours of warmed-uppedness: cool, toasty and downright scorching. Or 252bhp, 325bhp and 375bhp, if you're more numerically minded.
Sadly, the 375bhp is, for now, still a concept. Subaru calls it the Impreza WRX STI 380S, and says that it should make production within six months.
Technical details are sparse, but Prodrive does mention 'a complete engine rebuild with many uprated components'. And a turbo the size of a watermelon, no doubt. We're guessing at a 0-60mph time on the scary side of four seconds.
If you can't wait six months, you could always opt for the mildly less loony 325bhp STI 330S.
Prodrive has tweaked the 2.5-litre boxer's ECU and exhaust system, and promises that the 330S will 'bring back the burble'. It'll hit 60mph in just 4.4 seconds and will cost around £30,000.
Far more sensible is the 252bhp WRX-S. Essentially a mildly tuned WRX with an STI bodykit and a bunch of options included as standard, it's still no slouch, dispatching 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds.
So which one do you want? If you've answered anything but '380S', go and take a long hard look in the mirror.
