McLaren P1: sold out

Barely eight months after its breathless reveal at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, McLaren has confirmed its P1 supercar has sold out.

Well, 'accounted for', anyway, meaning each and every one of the 375 models has either been sold already or secured by deposit. In fact, a McLaren spokesman told TG.com how the waiting list is still growing.

Sad? We should admit, we're, erm, partially to blame here. McLaren tells us that its target was to sell all 375 P1s by September (it's 50th anniversary), with demand slowly building up over the summer. Then Top Gear got its grubby hands on it, thought it was pretty ace, a consequence of which saw sales breach the 375-model target ahead of schedule.

"We set ourselves the target to be sold out by year-end off the back of first cars being delivered to customers in September, the fiftieth anniversary of McLaren's founding," a company spokesman told Top Gear. "Demand for the car has been consistently strong since Geneva. A combination of the first feedback from customers and Top Gear's review of the P1 has seen us cross the line a little sooner than we had planned..."

Umm, sorry about that. Still, if you're a bit flush with cash and fancy a super-exclusive, hybrid hypercar with around 900bhp and mind-bending speed, there's still the Porsche 918 Spyder and LaFerrari. At least, we think there is...
