This is China’s answer to the Land Cruiser, and it costs just under £16k
181bhp engine, swathes of tech, familiar looks - reckon the Jetour T2 is just what Britain needs?
This is the Jetour T2, and there’s no mistaking its identity: it looks very much like a mash-up between the front of the forthcoming Toyota Land Cruiser and the rear of the current Land Rover Defender, particularly with those taillights and arrow straight tailgate. There are worse places to start, we’d proffer.
Beneath the bonnet sits a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel powertrain, sending 181bhp and 214lb ft to all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch thingamabob. The top speed isn’t too shabby either, with a quoted 112mph.
The T2’s intelligent drivetrain can switch between two and four-wheel-drive and can be further modified using up to six different driving modes - that even includes a ‘creeping’ mode to tone it down into full window-shopper speeds. An independent McPherson strut front and rear suspension complete the mechanical toy box.
There is, unfortunately, a bit of a trade-off where cabin quality is concerned. Sure, you get a 15.6in infotainment unit powered by a dandy Smartdragon processing chip, partial ambient lighting and an array of neatly organised switchgear along the central reservation. It’s even got some strange lightning-like patterns across the passenger side of the dashboard, which should be entertaining for all of three minutes. It just doesn’t look very… appealing.
Anyway, at current market rates, the T2 starts at just under 16 grand in China. Wait, what? Yep, you can get one of these for less than the price of a Vauxhall Corsa on these shores right now. Sadly - and you probably know where we’re going with this - Jetour has not announced its intentions to bring the T2 to Britain. Not yet at least.
Reckon you’d be interested if it has a change of heart?
