The Ford Mustang GTD is now even quicker around the Nürburgring

Ford has been updating its ‘Mustang supercar’ before it even gets to customers, and it is rapid

Published: 01 May 2025

Back at the end of 2024, Ford announced its upcoming Mustang GTD had lapped the Nürburgring in under seven minutes. In fact, the 804bhp supercharged former muscle car (it’s now a supercar, according to Ford) had set a time of 6m 57.6s, but Ford reckoned it could still do better.

And now… it has done better. Multimatic Motorsports driver Dirk Müller took the definitely-not-a-diesel-Golf round the ‘Ring in 6m 52.072s, shaving 5.5 seconds off his previous best.

The time puts the GTD within three seconds of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and we’re told that a number of tweaks after the 2024 lap helped to up the GTD’s average speed. Over the winter, Ford and Multimatic revised the chassis tuning with increased torsional rigidity, updated the suspension for more predictable handling, recalibrated the powertrain, tweaked the aero for more downforce and revised both the ABS and the traction control. Hope the team at least got Christmas Day off.

Production of the GTD will start imminently, so all customer cars will have these updates applied. So yes, if you want to book the Nürburgring to try and beat Dirk’s time, it will be a level playing field. Good luck…
