Hennessey readies 1,000bhp, 240mph CTS-V
"When the next generation Cadillac CTS-V hits the streets later this year," says John Hennessey, owner of Hennessey Performance Engineering, "it will have 640-plus bhp. This is a good starting point."
Yep, starting point. Meet Hennessey's latest plans to achieve warp speed: a highly modified new generation Cadillac CTS-V.
The strategy is simple: take one 2016-spec CTS-V, beef up 6.2-litre V8 to deranged power output, stand well back. No specific details have been given, but with so much power promised, we suspect there'll be new pistons and rods, a stronger crank, high flow heads, upgraded injectors and such. Oh, and he'll rip out the supercharger and replace it with a pair of turbochargers, too. Power will likely sit at around 1,000bhp.
There's more. Carbon ceramic brakes will deal with the significant stopping duties, while the Hennessey CTS-V will also benefit from bigger wheels and tyres, a widebody upgrade and a custom interior. We suspect there'll be more give in the arches, mind. If you need reminding, this Thing will follow Hennessey's old VR1200 twin-turbo coupe, which ran 221mph on a road near the Circuit of the Americas, which is in The Americas.
That car, says Hennessey, "was still pulling on when we ran out of road," which leads him to the conclusion that this new CTS-V will reach 240mph. "They [CTS-Vs] are a great platform which we can create our own special four-door supercar," he reckons.
So, there you have it. If you don't quite fancy the full-fat 1,000bhp job, there's also the option of an, um, low-power package, delivering between 750-800bhp from the factory supercharged V8. You want the 1,000bhp one, don't you?
