Lincoln MKX news - New Lincoln 4x4 crossover - 2006
Lincoln joins the throngs of manufacturers showing off crossover vehicles at Detroit with the MKX, a more touchy-feely 4x4 that aims to tackle the likes of the Lexus RX300 and Volvo XC90.
The engine is a 3.5-litre V6 attached to a six-speed automatic gearbox, which Lincoln claims greatly improves the MKX's economy compared with its rivals.
There has also been a concerted effort to get away from crude and noisy SUVs, so the MKX majors on refinement and comfort.
Lincoln has also worked hard to provide saloon levels of handling.
The interior seats five and is packed with all the luxury and safety kit expected of this class, as well as a huge sliding glass sunroof.
The Lincoln MKX goes on sale towards the end of 2006 in the US and there are no plans to bring it to Europe at present.
