For sale: a one-off *Rosso* Sierra Cosworth RS owned by the Duke of Bedford
Everyone’s got a blue RS Ford. Why not get the only red Sierra Cossie ever made?
It’s always Ford versus Ferrari, but rarely Ford and Ferrari, right? Here’s your opportunity to show an appreciation for both, with a very much Detroit-bred Sierra RS donning Maranello’s famous ‘Rosso Red’ coat. Sumptuous combo, you'll agree.
The paint was applied from the factory, at a time when only three colours were known to be offered: white, black and blue. Had you asked for a different option, let alone one from a manufacturer Ford was still side-eyeing at the time, you’d have been met with a proper troll face.
Unless you’re the 14th Duke of Bedford, obviously, who was believed to be the first owner of this car. It then took in a near 30-year staycation with late touring car sensation and multiple race winner, Vince Woodman, and now finds itself up for sale at Iconic Auctioneers with 98,000 miles to its name.
Powered by the indomitable 204bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder from Cosworth, it’ll crunch its way to 62mph in 6.2s and hit 150 flat-out. In full yobo-spec like the Sierra RS500 touring cars were in, this engine would actually punch out almost three times the power. Small wonder the Sierra is one of the most dominant racing cars ever built.
Anyway, fancy taking a punt? This example has a pre-VAT, pre-auction estimate of between £70k and £90k, and we know that’s no small amount, but how many other factory-built cars can claim to blend Ford engineering with Ferrari decor?
