Video: Ferrari-engined Toyota GT86 goes drifting

It was almost a year ago that we brought you the news that a Toyota GT86 was to be fitted with the naturally aspirated, 4.5-litre V8 from a Ferrari 458. The 'GT4586' drifter was finished for SEMA, and has been out making much smoke and lovely, incongruous (for drifting, anyway) Italian noises ever since. 

And here it is again. Pro-drifter Ryan Tuerck’s brainchild doing what it does best – being awesome – in between practice sessions at last month’s Formula Drift in Orlando, Florida.

Pleasingly, it is still without bonnet (or hood, Americans…), which allied to the exhausts that exit ahead of the front wheels means there’s little to come between you and the V8’s gratuitous noise. It also means the many modifications required to get a normally mid-mounted engine to fit are on display – like the chopped windscreen frame.  

As engine swaps go, this is one of our faves. Tricky as it was to do, it certainly makes a change from the big, American V8s you normally see folks shoehorning into these things. Don't you agree?
