The new Flachbau RS is a one-off Porsche 911 GT2 RS built to look (a bit) like Moby Dick

Keen Porsche slantnose enthusiasts will keenly remember that in May 2025, Porsche registered ‘Flachbau’ and ‘Flachbau RS’ with the European Patent Office. The one-off, dreamy special above is why: this is the – surprise! – Flachbau RS.

It’s an owner’s 991.2 911 GT2 RS – already a formidable machine – transformed by Porsche’s in-house dreamworks department (‘Sonderwunsch’) into something that looks like ‘Moby Dick’. Not the whale, but Porsche’s classic, rather effective and 'monstrous' racing car.

“Our aim was to reinterpret the iconic look of the 935 without compromising on safety, technology or road legality,” said Porsche’s VP of individualisation Alexander Fabig. Yup, you read that right: this thing’s road-legal.

And in a fortuitous twist, the design of this one-off was done by the same guy who did 2018’s 935 reinterpretation – Grant Larson. Grant’s now retired, Porsche tells us, but said of his new creation: “The new Flachbau RS is a modern, fitting reinterpretation of the iconic 935 Moby Dick design.”

Apparently turning a GT2 RS into a slantnose wasn’t really the work of a lazy afternoon. There are new, lower front wings, additional louvres, a new front bumper, and a really lovely new LED light treatment arranged in three tiers for high, low and daytime running.

Porsche’s best fwiend Manthey also decided to pitch into the project, which means there’s a new front splitter, rear diffuser, better aero than standard, and a fat rear wing. Said wing can be manually fixed into three positions depending on how much downforce is required and yes, this is a very keen Porsche.

So keen, it can produce 554kg of downforce when the wing’s in its ‘high’ position. It’s also 31.6kg lighter than the base GT2 RS, which already benefits from the lightweight Weissach Pack, so it’s really quite light.

Porsche hasn’t touched the GT2 RS’s drivetrain, because… why? It already gets close to 700bhp, 553lb ft, a 0-62mph time of 2.8s, top speed of 211mph and a mighty 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat six. One does not simply… walk up the power of a GT2 RS.

There's a special one-off paintjob dubbed ‘Grand Prix White’, contrast black elements, some stripes, aerodisc wheels, and a stripped out interior. Like, really stripped out. The customer requested Porsche rip out the PCM system, the stereo, and even the sound deadening and floor coverings.

It’s now all painted metal and exposed carbon. Even the wiring harness has been allowed to see the light of day, and Porsche – because it’s Porsche – even lightweighted the harness by removing “individual wires that were no longer needed”. There’s ‘lightweight gearshift gaiter material’, and then there’s this.

You’ll spot some fancy ‘Flachbau RS’ stitching, cabon fibre buckets, and a Nürburgring inscription. That latter bit’s not just for show – Porsche did 50 laps around the ‘Ring in a validation prototype (one of three built). And around the ‘Ring, keen Porsche test driver Lars Kern said is remained “extremely stable and precise even at very high speeds”. Job done, then.
