The new Volvo XC40 is the perfect compact SUV for city life
Paving the way for a new generation of compact SUVs, the award-winning Volvo XC40 combines cutting-edge technology with sleek Swedish design
Innovative design
New lines and shapes distinguish the new XC40’s exterior from the rest of the Volvo range, while ingenious interior design makes for a surprisingly spacious cabin. The panoramic roof lets in plenty of natural light, and you can open it with a single button press – perfect for soaking up the sun on warm days. As well as being a study in modern design, the space-efficient cabin is also sustainable. Most of the textile interior is made from 100% recycled materials and can be personalised to suit your style.

The new XC40 takes the strain out of driving thanks to Volvo’s latest connectivity, infotainment and safety technologies. These include voice control, a 9-inch touchscreen, Sensus Connect smartphone integration, wireless mobile phone charging and an immersive Harmon Kardon Premium Sound system. Plus, the 360° camera comes with a bird’s-eye view feature, while the Pilot Assist system gently keeps you safely within your lane at higher speeds. The only thing left for you to do is sit back and enjoy the guaranteed smooth ride.
Clever storage solutions
The clutter-free philosophy so ingrained in Scandinavian design is cleverly applied to the new XC40, which features a series of smart storage innovations. Space is maximised so everything has a place – from your laptop, which perfectly fits into the storage space in the door, to your takeaway, which you can hang on the hook that folds out from the glove compartment. The luggage compartment also comes with a range of neat practical touches, including a flexible load floor with grocery bag holders, and a private locking feature that stops the floor from being opened.

The new XC40 comes equipped with Volvo On Call, an app that connects you to your car, whether you want to find out where it’s parked or, if you go for the automatic model, control the cabin temperature. You can even use the Volvo On Call services to turn your car into a Wi-Fi hotspot so you can stay online on the road. It won’t even affect your phone’s battery life, thanks to the wireless mobile phone charging feature.
Safety first
In true Volvo style, safety lies at the heart of the new XC40. Taking the “prevention is the best cure” approach, the City Safety feature warns you if a collision is imminent and even brakes automatically if you don’t have time to react, avoiding – or at the very least mitigating – a collision. Cross Traffic Alert is another perk, because it tells you if there’s crossing traffic when you reverse out of a parking space. There’s even an Adaptive Cruise Control setting to help keep you at a set distance from the vehicle in front.
