BMW iX2 review

£51,560 - £61,660
Published: 15 Mar 2024

What should I be paying?

The entry-level eDrive20 M Sport iX2 starts at a hefty £51,615 in the UK. That compares to £40,515 for the base spec petrol X2 and £57,445 for the more powerful twin-motor xDrive30 M Sport. Yeah, it’s not cheap.

The fact that you can only spec M Sport trim in the UK does make configuring an iX2 nice and easy though. There’s a fair bit of kit offered as standard like wireless phone charging and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, although the only free paint colour is Alpine White. Metallic colours will set you back an extra £595, while an upgrade to 20in wheels is another £700. We’d say save your money and stick with the more comfortable 19s.

Black cloth trim is also standard, but you can upgrade to black, brown or beige leather for £1,150, or fake Veganza leatherette for £795. A technology pack with acoustic glass, adaptive LED headlights and electric folding mirrors is £1,680.

Monthly costs will probably end up around the £700 mark for a twin-motor xDrive30 with a couple of those optional extras and it’s worth noting that rivals come in a fair bit cheaper. The fact that the entry level Polestar 2 offers 313 miles of range and rear-wheel drive dynamics for £44,950 will be a fly in the iX2’s ointment.

What do I need to know about charging?

Both iX2s can rapid charge at speeds of up to 130kW, which means a 10 to 80 per cent top-up takes just 29 minutes if you can find a plug that draws the maximum rate. That also means you could bag up to 75 miles of range with a 10-minute top-up.

Alternatively, an 11kW wallbox charge will take 6h 30m for the full 0 to 100 per cent boost.
