Not as good to drive as we hoped, but the interior design and space makes up for it. Solid effort

Good stuff

Interior packaging, gearbox, economy, cabin design

Bad stuff

Diesel’s noise intrusion, steering should be sharper and chassis more nimble

Overview

What is it?

This is not the first Honda HR-V. Back in 1999 Honda launched the nameplate with a three-door SUV. It was small, cool and a crossover long before the term was ever invented. It’s eventual replacement arrives nine years after the old one died, is five-door only and comes into a market where the term crossover is becoming a well-worn buzzword. Stylish and smart, it’s available with either petrol or diesel engines, the option of a CVT gearbox and with four trim levels to choose from.
