The HF-11 supercar will get a 5.0-litre flat-six and up to 1,200bhp
Oilstainlab’s funky new ICE/EV supercar shown off in new hue: Very Orange
What you saw last year was just a taste – this is as close to the finished thing as you’ll get. California’s Oilstainlab has revealed a ‘pre-production’ version of its dandy new HF-11 supercar, and this time, it’s really Very Orange.
Not the official colour name, of course. OSL call it ‘Negroni Orange’, and this new version is said to be about 99 per cent of the final car you’ll be able to purchase soon. If you’re struggling to size it, it’s a smidgen shorter and wider than a Ferrari 296 GTB.
The same targets still apply as per last year’s car. Which means a weight of no more than 953kg for the electric car, and around 900kg for the ICE car.
That ICE version will get a mid-mounted petrol flat six “descended from classic motorsport and resurrected for one purpose”. There’ll be a choice of either a 4.6-litre or 5.0-litre sixer, the base car offering a healthy 600bhp, punching right up to 1,200bhp for the big boy.
And that big boy will rev right out to a 12,000rpm redline – twelve thousand! – matched to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed ‘quick shift’ sequential, and a limited-slip diff.
OSL has already built a working EV prototype too, and the final car will get an 80kWh battery and a full 800bhp, along with a six-speed manual gearbox. Both cars are rear-wheel-drive, and the target is for 0-60mph in around three seconds. So it’ll be fast.
And… suspension-y. There’s inboard pushrods/double wishbones front and back, with custom Ohlins dampers hiding inside. The uprights have been machined from aluminium. Brakes? Massive. Six pots bolted over 394mm discs up front, four pots over 390mm discs on the back.
OSL has enlisted Crawford Composites in North Carolina to help manufacture the carbon tub that’ll sit at the heart of every HF-11. We’re informed CC have experience in building Le Mans prototypes, Indy Cars and Formula cars, too. So should be able to knock out a supercar without breaking a sweat.
Looks cool, too, with its exposed powertrain at the back, a streamlined, aero-honed body, phat wheels and tyres, diffusers here, splitters there, and lots of motorsport-spec thinking applied. OSL is targeting 589kg of downforce at 150mph.
Same motorsport-spec promise inside, too, via a “Le Mans style door” that swings up to reveal a fairly spartan cockpit that you can customise to your heart’s content. Inside you’ll find five gauges, a digital display, lots of carbon fibre, a digital rearview mirror, reversing camera, that sort of thing.
