Buying

What should I be paying?

The RZ starts at £64,500 on the road for the base-spec Premium Pack car, rising to £75,100 for the range-topping Takumi model with bi-tone paintjob. That’s a fair chunk of change, especially when you consider that a top spec Toyota bZ4X with the twin-motor powertrain costs just over £54k.

You do get plenty of kit as standard though, and crucially you can have the smaller 18-inch wheels with the entry-level Premium Pack trim. The larger 20-inch wheels are a £950 option or come as standard on the Premium Plus Pack and Takumi trims, but as they knock at least 20 miles off your expected range and have a negative impact on ride quality, we can’t see the appeal at all.

That Premium Plus Pack starts at £68,500, while the Takumi (minus fancy paint) kicks off at £74,000.

What do you get with the different trims?

You get plenty of kit as standard: the Premium Pack comes with heated seats and steering wheel, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, 14in central touchscreen, reversing camera, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control, auto wipers and lights, keyless go, panoramic roof and powered tailgate.

The Premium Plus Pack adds the infrared heaters up front, 360-degree parking cameras, head-up display and ventilated front seats (plus those 20in alloys) while the Takumi model chucks in fancy dimmable glass on the panoramic roof, hands free tailgate opening, 64-colour ambient interior lights, performance dampers and a Mark Levinson stereo system.

How fast will it charge?

Ah yes, an important consideration when cross-shopping EVs. The RZ 450e can fast charge at speeds of up to 150kW. That’s pretty good compared to rivals and means a 0-80 per cent charge time of just 30 minutes.
