Chevrolet Camaro (US) review
Driving
What is it like to drive?
There is an immediate feeling of direct feedback and control from all points of contact within the first few yards of driving a new Camaro. The steering is direct and responsive, the chassis responses through your hands, back and thighs quick and true. The Camaro’s high beltline makes you feel like you’re sitting low in the car, like a race car. It also restricts all round vision, the rear three quarters being a particular blindspot issue. But there is a balance and composure to the cars that make them able and keen to drive fast on all roads as they are comfortable in city traffic.
If you really want to experience the best the Camaro can offer, look no further than its 1LE package models. The V8-powered SS 1LE is the performance car bargain of the year. Wearing its bigger brother’s, the ZL1, active shocks and bigger, wider wheels and tyres, allied to a lusty 455bhp V8 and a rev-matching six speed manual box, it’s right up there with a BMW M4 Competition Pack for just over 60 per cent of the price.
