The Ford Fiesta was the most stolen car of 2023

New DVLA stats show 16 Fiestas were stolen *every day* last year

Published: 23 Jan 2024

The Ford Fiesta was the most stolen car of 2023, returning the much-loved supermini back to the top of at least one list.

The former best-seller – which Ford discontinued in Summer 2023 – was confirmed by the DLVA as the most pinched car in the UK last year, following a freedom of information request by car leasing comparison site LeaseLoco.

It shows a total of 5,796 Fiestas were stolen across 2023, which equates to 16 stolen every single day. Sheesh. Apparently the UK’s favourite supermini was the most stolen car in both 2021 and 2022, as well.

That figure comes against 64,087 cars stolen in total last year, an increase on 2022’s figure of 61,106. The Ford Focus was the second most stolen car last year (2,120), followed by the Volkswagen Golf (2,038). Shockingly, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class saw a 29.6 per cent rise in thefts over 2022, with 1,786 reported as stolen in 2023.

Thefts of Range Rover Sports were down by 28.6 per cent over 2022, however, while the Evoque also saw a small drop of 2.8 per cent. 954 Disco Sports were pinched in 2023, marking an increase of 15.2 per cent over 2022’s figure of 862.

Elsewhere, the Kia Niro was the most stolen EV (177), followed by the Hyundai Ioniq (139). The data also showed 43 Ferraris, 51 Porsche 911s, 14 Lambos and 29 Teslas were pinched in 2023.
