Gav is ‘Director, Attributes & Product Integrity, Lotus Cars’, which is a posh way of saying he’s the chap in charge of making sure Lotuses handle like Lotuses. And that means it’s up to him to make cars like the new mid-engined Emira exhibit world-class balance, feelsome controls, and ride comfort from the gods.

No pressure then. But it seems Mr Kershaw has been very thorough with his testing, and to prove it, he’s been wrecking a set of tyres in this manual V6 Emira prototype.

This will be the first flavour of Emira to land next year, after which we’ll see a turbocharged 2.0-litre version with power from AMG, and there’s likely to be a soft-top version as well as more focused racier ones in future.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. For now, we present a man doing drifts, and trying very hard not to giggle.
