TG’s top picks from Silverstone’s £4.4m auction
Jaguar XJ220 heads the line-up of classic machinery sold over the weekend

Sure, the Jaguar took the top spot when it comes to value. But you might find it interesting that a 1985 Ford Escort RS Turbo Series I also sold for quite a lot of money over the weekend. £60,188, in fact, which secures a world record for such an Escort at auction.
Those of a certain age might also find it interesting that, in the same auction, a Renault 5 Turbo 1, one of the original pocket rockets, also sold for a stratospheric £61,875. Lots of money for lots of boost...
Both formed part of Silverstone Auctions’ ‘Classic Motor Show’ sale, which took place last weekend at Birmingham’s NEC.
There was quite a lot of good stuff, so we’ve rounded up the top sellers along with a few choice gems. Have a click through the gallery and let us know your favourite.
