Check out this previously unseen VW sports car concept
This wicked two-door coupe could have been a halo ID car for Volkswagen’s electric era
Volkswagen’s design team is currently in the process of revealing a whole series of old sketches over on LinkedIn, and one in particular has caught our eye.
These are drawings from 2017 of a ‘sporty concept proposal’ that was inspired by the Volkswagen SP2 and would have been based on the then-upcoming MEB platform. And looks a little bit like a wide-arched, modern-day electric DeLorean.
The sketches were the work of designer Tibor Juhasz, who shared the LinkedIn post and said: “Back in 2017, my SP2 proposal was born from pure intuition. It envisioned an electric future powered by progress, yet deeply rooted in classic values. My goal was clear: build forward without losing what defines us. Emotion, energy, and vision came together to create something that still resonates today.”
It would have been quite the halo product for the ID range too, which eventually kicked off with the ID.3 in 2019. Of course, the original SP2 was a Volkswagen of Brazil creation with a rear-mounted four-pot engine and excellent proportions. Reckon VW should still be looking to bring it back?
