Toyota FT-HS news - The future Supra? - 2007

Published: 05 Jan 2007

Ken Livingstone isn't going to like this, not one bit.

The caped crusader of congestion charging would love us all to drive hybrid-powered cars, but we don't think the Lexus FT-HS is what he had in mind.

The FT-HS is a sports car concept that points the way to how the next Toyota Supra will look. It uses a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine and electric battery set-up to deliver 400bhp and 0-62mph in four seconds.

But before Ken bursts a blood vessel, the FT-HS is a four-seater, so car sharing is a possibility.

The car has been designed at Lexus's Californian studio and will be on show at the Detroit motor show, which kicks off this weekend. You can keep bang up to date with all the latest news here on TopGear.com.

The FT-HS's scooped and sculpted body is designed to allow air to flow over it with the minimum fuss.

A speed-activated rear wing pops up to aid stability, while the carbon-fibre wheels keep the weight down.

Inside, it's just as swoopily styled, with the instrument display appearing in a curved section of the centre console. The steering wheel does without a hub, rotating instead through a telescoping lower carrier that also holds the gearshift paddles.

Even if Red Ken wouldn't approve, we reckon the FT-HS looks great.
