Dieselmax news - Dieselmax breaks 200mph barrier - 2006

Published: 04 Aug 2006

They're only testing it and already the JCB Dieselmax has broken through the 200mph mark.

During shakedown runs at RAF Wittering near Peterborough, the twin diesel-engined machine turned in seven runs at more than 180mph before topping out at 201mph.

This was achieved with the two turbocharged engines' boost turned down to keep power to 1,200bhp. For the record attempt at the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah there will be 1500bhp on tap for driver Andy Green to play with.

Wing Commander Green currently holds the outright land-speed record in Thrust SSC, so he knows a thing or two about going quickly.

He says: "It's remarkably easy to drive. The Dieselmax steers very well, the brakes work smoothly, and it gives you the confidence you need when accelerating to very speeds and stopping in a limited space."

The record attempt begins next week in Utah.
