Ken Block’s wild Audi S1 Hoonitron: first look at the interior
The Elektrikhana star gets a public outing at Laguna Seca, video arrives later this year
Smaller than it looks, that. This is Ken Block’s electric Audi Hoonitron, the star of his next Gymkhana instalment dubbed ‘Elektrikhana’, and one that riffs off the most famous of all Audi motorsport cars, the S1 quattro.
The Hoonitron was treated to a public reveal at Laguna Seca during Monterey Car Week’s motorsports reunion alongside Röhrl’s fabulous – and fabulously old-school – original S1, still bearing a few battle scars.
Nothing on the Hoonitron, mind, including any further drivetrain information. Upon the car’s launch last December, Audi said the car packs a dual-motor setup, though the final figure hasn’t been revealed. So it’ll be [moves hands apart] that much. His previous ‘Hoonicorn’ kicked out 1,400bhp, as did the bonkers seven-motor Mustang Mach-E 1400, so there’s a rather sideways clue as to how much power he’ll need.
Assisting his sideways trajectory is a very minimal, very motorsport-y cabin, seen here for the first time. A simple screen showcases a few vital stats – speed, battery charge and whether you’re going forwards or backwards. Interestingly, it says ‘RWD’ on the right, suggesting this Hoonitron will come with a few modes.
Underneath that sits a panel of buttons for the lights, fan, water, wipers and something called ‘Signature’. His actual signature will be written in tyre carcass via that central lever that’ll kick him into slides aplenty, once Elektrikhana debuts later this year.
Bigger than it looks, that.
