Lancia has announced the 237bhp Ypsilon ‘HF’ is coming in 2025
It’s even hinted at a possible return to rallying, which hasn’t got us excited at all
Having announced its revival with the Ypsilon hatchback, Lancia has followed up by teasing a hot ‘HF’ version scheduled for 2025, and the early signs are certainly encouraging.
It packs a 237bhp electric motor, a marked improvement over the entry-level car’s 154, and aims to bring the sprint to 62mph down by around two seconds to 5.8. Though it will likely retain the same 51kWh battery, which issues an estimated 250 miles of range in standard trim.
The mechanical changes should also be accompanied by a full suite of skirts, splitters and HF badging, and given the relatively clutter-free design of the Ypsilon’s lower sections, there's room for Lancia to go a little off the chain, here. Should also work well with the lower ride height and wider track confirmed for the Ypsilon HF.
Oh, and if you’re wondering why there’s a big red elephant across the logo, this was actually chosen as the lucky charm by the son of the company’s founding father, Vincenzo Lancia, and is a metaphor for the ‘unstoppable’ nature of an elephant once it begins to run. It’s also a symbol of good fortune and success in Eastern mythology.
In other exciting news, Lancia boss Luca Napolitano has confirmed that a return to rallying is in the pipeline; a sport in which the brand has steeped history, having won 10 Manufacturers’ Championship titles between 1974 and 1992. We’d love to see the team return with an abundance of pesky ideas, like those displayed in the famous season of 1983.
Alongside the Ypsilon, Lancia will also launch a revived Gamma model in 2026 and an all-new Delta in 2028. The HF badge will be attached to the range-topping versions of both, too. Watch this space...
