Official: the Audi A2 will return in 2026 as a small, entry-level electric car
Audi resurrects one of its coolest cars for a 2026 reboot
Audi has confirmed its intention to resurrect the spirit – and silhouette – of one of its coolest cars. The brilliant little A2 will return in 2026 as a small, entry-level electric car.
“We’ve listened,” said Audi boss Gernot Döllner. “Our customers want electric mobility that impresses in everyday life. The A2 e-tron is our promise to deliver exactly that – efficient, compact, and confident. We’re making entry into the electric Audi world easier and more relevant than ever.”
The name is apparently “a deliberate nod to the Audi A2, which pioneered efficiency and urban mobility over 25 years ago”. The new A2 e-tron will look to be the same, but electric. And modern.
It’ll likely sit on the same box of parts that make up the Volkswagen ID.3 (and all the other EVs that use the shared ‘MEB’ platform within the VW Group), so it’ll be a known quantity in terms of architecture.
But just how closely it follows the old A2’s shape – made of lightweight aluminium, don’t forget – remains to be seen. Because not much can be seen from the sole shady silhouette teaser we've been offered so far. Looks promising, though.
We’ll see the finished car later this year.
