This is Italdesign’s bespoke 205mph supercar
Carbon-bodied V10 limited edition launches a new supercar brand into the world. Like it?
The Italian styling house Italdesign (love a literal name, the Italians) is launching a new limited edition car brand at this year’s Geneva motor show, called Italdesign Automobili Speciali. Yup, they do like a straightforward name. Here, you’re looking at their debut effort: a new 205mph, carbon-bodied supercar. Strictly, it doesn’t have its own name yet – perhaps you’d like to suggest some below. What we do have are the stats.
Powered by a 5.2-litre V10 of suspected Audi R8 origin (Italdesign was bought out by the VW Group in 2015), the car gets from 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds and goes on to top the double-ton. The Lamborghini Centenario-esque, full carbon fibre bodywork (based on an aluminium and CF chassis) is just under five metres long and 1970mm wide, and of course, there’s plenty of Italdesign flamboyance in the lines.
“Above the tornado line, outlines are distinctly softer and smoother in keeping with the Italian Gran Turismo tradition,” Italdesign tells us. “The lower part is modelled from aerodynamics. To achieve the performances we had in mind, we had to dare beyond all limits from styling and even purely technical points of view. The outcome ensures extremely high impact without ever being design for design’s sake.” Couldn’t have put it better ourselves.
Only five of these cars will ever be built, towards the end of 2017, and unusually for a high-performance piece of unobtanium, there’s no mention in Italdesign’s news release of them all being sold yet. These things are potentially still up for grabs. For rather more than the £135,000 an Audi R8 V10 Plus sets you back, we suspect. You’re going to need to add a zero to that figure, at least…
