It's the Vauxhall Insignia GSI!
Reasonably swift Vauxhall gets 256bhp and AWD
Moderately fast Vauxhall alert. This is the new Insignia GSI – an all-wheel drive, Brembo-braked sports saloon with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine making 256bhp. It should, therefore be moderately fast.
Vauxhall hasn’t given us specifics, but with that kind of power we reckon you’re looking at 0-62mph in the fives and 150mph or thereabouts. Not ballistic, but not bad. An interesting alternative to the Leon Cupra-engined Skoda Superb and Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce, perhaps?
The chassis has been fettled for schportiness, it sits 10mm lower than a regular Insignia, and there’s a special, additional drive mode called “Competition” which puts everything into maximum attack mode. Vauxhall promises a double-tap of the ESP button switches off the traction control (we hope completely) giving “skilled drivers the chance to excel when on the track”. Its four-wheel drive system is the same sort you get in a Focus RS. Just don’t go expecting a smokey drift mode.
On the outside a bodykit gives “required levels of downforce”, and inside you get sports seats, a special steering wheel and aluminium pedals. The wheels are 18s and shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. Bigger 20s are optional.
The GSI is coming to September’s Frankfurt motor show. More as we have it…
