Mark your novelty James Bond calendars: the new Aston Martin DB is coming
Aston teases the successor to the ageing DB11 with a few shady pics
This is the successor to the Aston Martin DB11, as seen through the eyes of somebody about to undergo a cataract operation. These three rather shady teaser images of a car likely badged ‘DB12’ are all we’re getting ahead of a full unveil later this month.
So, until that day, let us spin for the Speculative Wheel of Fortune. For its part, Aston Martin tells us the new car will usher in “a new era of class-leading performance, driving dynamics and ultra-luxury”. It also says the DB12 – if indeed that’s what name it takes – will offer “prodigious performance and pinpoint driving dynamics”.
There’s also talk of better tech, craftsmanship and ‘sublime’ style. A cursory glance at the two exterior images above suggests they haven’t dropped the ball, but cataracts have yet to be removed. Saying that, the interior looks to be filled with glorious buttons.
Whether Aston will remove that V12 from the DB12 line-up remains to be seen. This decade hasn't been accommodating to twelve cylinder powerplants, so should it depart with the DB11, expect that AMG-sourced 4.0-litre biturbo V8 to be substantially uprated. Because of that 'prodigious performance', you see.
Expect it to be substantially uprated across the board. “This highly anticipated sports car will break free from the norms of the GT sector,” says Aston, “creating a new category of one celebrating 75 years of Aston Martin’s iconic DB bloodline of exceptional hand-built British sportscars.”
Mark your novelty James Bond-themed calendars now: the DB12 will be revealed on 24 May.
