Official: the electric, good-looking Mazda 6e saloon is coming to the UK in 2026

The electric substitute for the original 6 is heading our way. Start saving

Published: 10 Jan 2025

Good news! The very handsome and very electric Mazda EZ-6 saloon is coming to the UK with lots of shiny new electrons and a shiny new name. This is the 6e - because it's the electric version of the also-very-handsome but now dead Mazda 6 - and is set to arrive on our shores at some point in 2026 following its arrival in Europe later this year.

A collab between Mazda and Chinese firm Changan Automobile, the 6e will come with two electric powertrain options. The first gets a 255bhp motor - good for 0-62mph in 7.6s - paired with a 68.8kWh battery, delivering a claimed 300 miles of range and a 10-80 per cent recharge time of 22 minutes at a 200kW DC charger.

Then there’s the 241bhp long-range version with a bigger 80kWh battery, which - as the name suggests - gets an improved 345 miles of range, though it's two-tenths slower to get to 62mph (7.8s), and takes a heftier 45-minutes to recharge from 10-80 per cent. The common ground between both versions is 236lb ft of torque and the sole option of rear-wheel drive.

It’s a handsome thing. Crafted under Mazda’s ‘Kodo Soul of Motion’ design philosophy, the 6e gets the Japanese carmaker's typically lovely styling. That means an unfussy, smooth silhouette, low roofline and short-decking to keep things sporty but tidy.

An illuminated grille joins the sharp headlight signatures, with 19in Y-spoked alloys and integrated door handles along the flanks. The rear gets a horizontal bar with Mazda’s go-to small circle light clusters (yep, we’re seeing some Jag F-Type in there too), with the other standout being the electronically adjustable rear wing. It’s unlikely to be as powerful as the one seen on the McLaren W1, but it’s still pretty cool.

Customers will have two trim options for the interior: ‘Takumi’ and ‘Takumi Plus’, between which you’ll get a choice of leather and surface finishes. We suggest opting out of the cream and black combination.

The 6e gets a panoramic roof, while inside there's a floating centre console, plus a 10.2in augmented driver display teamed with a 14.6in infotainment screen. There’s as much as 330 litres of space at the back and 70 at the front, which should be ample.

UK prices for the new Mazda 6e will be revealed closer to launch. No word of a hot ‘MPS’ just yet, but we’re staying hopeful.
