Skoda’s new £51k Enyaq vRS is here with 335bhp and 340 miles of range
The Czech marque’s joint quickest car will land next month
This is the new Skoda new Enyaq ‘vRS’, which joins the Elroq vRS as Skoda’s fastest-accelerating car on sale. Regardless of whether you choose the SUV or Coupe body style, it’s good money for 0-62mph in 5.4s - one-tenth faster than the car it replaces.
The ample pace comes courtesy of a dual-motor powertrain, which directs 335bhp worth of electrons (40 more than before) to all four wheels and on to a vmax of 111mph. Paired up with an 84kWh (79 net) battery, range is estimated at 340 miles, with a maximum recharge rate of 185kW restoring 80 per cent of that in 26 minutes. Or 8.5 hours if you’re chillin’ by an 11kW home socket.
There's a sportier chassis tune that drops the front axle by 15mm and the rear by 10mm compared to the standard Enyaq. You’ll also get two synthesised e-motor sounds to choose from - ‘Sport’ and ‘Futuristic’ - while Skoda has done a bit of fettling to the dampers to make them more dynamic, with as many as 15 stiffness levels to choose from.
The body’s been honed for aero - because of course - while the LED lights at both ends are partnered with what Skoda is calling ‘dynamic indicators’. You’ll also get a choice of 20in anthracite or 21in ‘Draconis’ alloys, the latter featuring swanky aero covers.
As is the way with these vRS-spec cars, there’s lots of gloss black accenting along smaller sections like the roof rails, window trim and mirror caps. They complement the Enyaq’s modern 'Tech-Deck' face rather well, which masks an armada of radars and sensors within. Y’know, for the Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assist… that sorta thing.
Two interior finishes will be on offer. The standard ‘Suite’ comes with leather upholstery and grey stitching, with imitation carbon worn along the door panels and dashboard. The grander ‘Lounge’ alternative uses more microsuede and artificial leather, with bits of lime green contrast stitching. You’ll get a heated three-spoke steering wheel in this one as well, and a few extra vRS badges to point proudly at.
Both cars come with memory foam massage seats, a 635-watt Canton audio system and a 13in multimedia hub. Other bits worth mentioning include a five-inch digital driver's display supported by an AR-based HUD. You’ll get wireless phone charging in there too, with up to four additional fast-charging USB-C ports.
Sales begin this June, with the SUV costing from £51,660 and the Coupe commanding an extra £1,900. Reckon Skoda should attempt another drifting world record with either?
