Ford Transit XXL news - Lost in Transit - 2007

Published: 03 Jan 2007

The Ford Transit has been used to transport huge numbers of people throughout its life.

In most instances this has involved minibus conversions, and occasionally a few bank robbers bursting from the rear.

Now Ford has come up with the ultimate Transit people mover with its appropriately named XXL.

The XXL is a one-off machine built to celebrate the Transit winning International Van of the Year. It's made from two Tourneo models carefully cut and rejoined in the right places.

Sitting at 7.4 metres long, the XXL has four sliding side doors and can seat seven passengers plus the driver in leather-trimmed comfort.

Each passenger has their own heated captain's chair that swivels, and everyone has a screen to watch DVDs on and play computer games.

There's also a huge luggage compartment at the rear, but power comes from a standard 130bhp 2.2-litre turbodiesel, so don't expect any world speed records from the XXL.
