Attention Formula 1 fans: five McLaren Racing heritage cars are up for grabs

Time to break out the wallet... and the racing suit

Published: 21 Oct 2026

32 years of McLaren's history in Formula 1, five lightly talented drivers, and a healthy helping of podium finishes: that’s the combined CV of these five rather delightful McLaren F1 cars now on sale.

The cars span the naturally aspirated V12 1991 McLaren MP4/6A (chassis #04 and #07), the 2012 V8-powered McLaren MP4/27A, and the hybridised 2021 McLaren MCL35M and 2023 McLaren MCL37A. And breathe.

The cars come from McLaren Racing’s own collection and will be sold through Tom Hartley Jnr. Each car has remained with McLaren since retiring from its respective race career, so the good news is there’s no need to kick the tyres here.

The luxury dealer was entrusted with the sale after flogging the Ecclestone Grand Prix Collection of 69 cars for an eye-watering estimate of £300 million-£500 million in 2024.

Keen McLaren fans will recognise the names behind the cars: previous drivers include Ayrton Senna, Gerhard Berger, Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, and Lando Norris. Might have heard of them.

And recognise their heroics on track, like Norris and Riccardo’s 1-2 finish in the MCL35M at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, and the MP4/6A's dominant performance at the 1991 San Marino Grand Prix, where both cars lapped the entire field.

The sale of Lando Norris’s 2023 MCL37A makes it the most modern Formula 1 car ever offered for private ownership. If that wasn’t cool enough, Hollywood hero Brad Pitt took the same car to 197mph whilst ‘preparing’ for his role in the F1 movie.

McLaren Racing big cheese Zak Brown said: “We have decided to part with these iconic McLaren Formula One cars because we feel that having them simply sitting in storage is a disservice to what they represent. These cars were built to be driven and raced, and we want to see them being used and enjoyed.” We couldn’t agree more, Zak.
