Gallery: the best cars of Top Gear's history
Top Gear Magazine is 25. These are the landmark cars from its time on the shelves
This month, Top Gear Magazine is 25 years old. So to mark the occasion, the latest issue comes with a nice shiny bonus mag, celebrating the 53 countries, 1.7 million miles and 300,000 cups of rubbish tea we’ve racked up in that time.
Oh, and the cars. We’ve picked the 25 greatest cars of TG mag’s life, one from each year. Have a click through the gallery to see a few highlights, and get a hold of the mag via the link below to see our whole selection.
And be sure to let us know below if you think we’ve made some duff choices, or simply to trumpet your favourite car from the last 25 years.

The supercar developed with the help of Ayrton Senna, and the car you can thank for just how flipping useable stuff like Ferrari 488s and Lamborghini Huracans are. The NSX proved a fast two-door sports car doesn’t have to be a complete pain in the bum to use in everyday driving.

1994 - McLaren F1
Of course this had to be here. The fastest car in the world before the Bugatti Veyron landed, and one without any of those cheating turbos or paddleshift gearboxes to acquire its speed. Perhaps the greatest road car engine mated to a six-speed manual and iconic three-seat layout.

Doesn’t it look a right treat? The Elise you can buy now is still broadly alike the car you see here, only with lightness removed rather than added. You want an Elise, you want it simple: 118bhp nat-asp engine, manual gearbox, not a modicum of tech inside.

1999 - Pagani Zonda
If the NSX proved that supercars don’t have to be annoying to own, the Zonda proved that Italian supercars don’t have to come from Ferrari or Lamborghini. The fact Pagani is still turning out Zonda special editions proves there was an inherent rightness to this car when it launched. It’s still a stunner, right?

2007 - Fiat 500
See, it’s not only mega fast expensive things we like. You can derive just as much joy from a £10k city car as a £1m hypercar, trust us. The 500 sweetly melded retro styling with modern tech, but at an affordable price. What a recipe.

2013 - Tesla Model S
A watershed moment for electric cars – the moment they became desirable to people who’d normally call themselves petrolheads. Whatever you think of Elon Musk’s persona, the cars his company churn out have changed the way we think about plug-in vehicles. Not to mention altering what we expect from cars of the future...

It’s not officially the world’s fastest car just yet, but we suspect it will be with time, as Bugatti no doubt aims for 300mph. In the meantime, the Chiron is a 1,500bhp monster that’s as simple to pootle around in as a VW Golf.
