Live and let buy: 007 First Light tops 1.5m sales in its first 24 hours
It’s the fastest selling game in Hitman developer Io Interactive’s history
Evidently quite a lot of us have been expecting you, Mr Bond: within just 24 hours of release, 007 First Light has already racked up over 1.5m sales.
That’s more units in the opening day of release than any of the Hitman titles, which Danish studio Io Interactive created before this Bond origin story. It’s gone down well with the critics too, currently sitting at 87 on Metacritic, and you can expect to see our review imminently.
Those 1.5m units sold tell us that people still care about James Bond, and that much-hyped game releases are still capable of meeting lofty fan expectations.
It’s great news, not just for Bond fans, but for gaming. You’ll have noticed how tough conditions are out there in the games industry right now and how many projects are being canned before they even see the light of day. Frankly, we need more 007 First Lights to illuminate the way.
The highest-selling 24 hour record in games, you ask? Oh, you didn’t? Well we googled it anyway, so tough: it’s GTA V. Obviously it’s GTA V. 11.2m units sold when it first released in 2013, which as we all know is over a hundred years ago now.
Well done, Io. Make loads more brilliant games, please.
