The Polestar 5 is coming to Gran Turismo 7

And it’s enlisted the help of a racing driver and sim pro to ensure it translates as accurately as possible

Fans of Gran Turismo 7 will now be able to experience all 871bhp and 749lb ft of the Polestar 5 – and precisely none of the range anxiety – from the comfort of their living room sofas from next month.

Just perhaps not quite the visceral assault on the senses that a 3.1secs zero to 60mph sprint time delivers. But wait, because Polestar and game developers Polyphony Digital enlisted the help of professional racing driver and Gran Turismo pro, Igor Fraga, to translate the driving dynamics of the Polestar 5 into the game.

Fraga was given permission to test the Polestar 5 first at the carmaker’s development facility in Sweden, before two days on track at Brands Hatch. The onboard footage and telemetry were shared with Polyphony Digital to ensure it could mirror the car’s behaviour in the game.

This was followed by virtual testing of the Polestar 5 by Froga at Polyphony Digital's HQ in Tokyo, to ensure the in game version drove as similarly to the real life version as possible.

"The end result means the digital car 100 per cent replicates the behind-the-wheel experience of the real Polestar 5, meaning GT racers will have just as much fun as buyers of the actual cars," said Joakim Rydholm, head of driving dynamics at Polestar.

Gran Turismo boss Kazunori Yamauchi added: "The development team at Polestar put a great deal of care into crafting the car’s driving experience, and so I am sure the players will enjoy the experience of driving it in Gran Turismo.”
