You can now drive an Extreme E Odyssey 21*
*If you’ve got an Xbox and Forza Horizon 5, of course
Clearly reeling from TopGear.com’s sole criticism that EVs get short shrift in Forza Horizon 5, Turn 10 Studios and Extreme E have partnered up. And that means you’ll be able to pilot the wild Odyssey 21 off-road electric racer.
From today (19 July), players will be able to race across Horizon 5’s Mexico playground in Freddie Flintoff’s 2021 EV of the Year, a car that in the so-called Real World packs 550bhp and is capable of going from 0-60mph in 4.5secs… across anything.
You’ll apparently get “four weeks of unmissable racing action on the Festival Playlist”, and the chance to compete in new events and challenges unlocking “unique variants” representing each of the ten Extreme E teams. Sadly, there is no word on a ‘Odyssey 21 vs Man With A Jet Pack’, but on the other hand, there are ‘Extreme E race suits’.
Each season of the Festival Playlist is apparently inspired by the real Extreme E calendar, too. The Island X Prix races along the east coast of Playa Azul, the Energy X Prix goes to Guanajuato, Copper X Prix takes players to the Canyon, while Desert X Prix is across the Dunas Blancas.
Extreme E’s marketing boss Ali Russell said: “It has been great to work together to bring the Odyssey 21 e-SUV to Forza Horizon 5 players who are enthusiastic about electric vehicles. We are excited for more people to see what electric vehicles are capable of and showcase the series in a new light.”
McLaren Extreme E driver (and drift hero) Tanner Foust added: “The capability and speed of the Odyssey 21 will be something the Forza fans will absolutely love.”
