Hooray! The Toyota GR86 is back on sale
But you’ll probably only get one if you’re already on the waiting list. Boo
As was hinted at last month, the GR86 is back on sale again in the UK having sold out last year in less time than it takes to complete a football match.
However, two caveats apply: one significant, the other not. One is that Toyota will be funnelling this latest batch of coupes to those who’ve already signed up for the waiting list, and the other is that the price has risen to £32,495.
Still seems like reasonable money for a 9/10 car (you can read TG.com’s exhaustive review here), but the final nail in the coffin for anyone who hasn’t already expressed an interest is that Toyota reckons ‘the new allocation will be another sell-out’.
The company is still holding out hope that further cars will be sent to these shores in the future, so you’re still free to join that waiting list and await The Email of Truth.
We say email because Toyota’s sticking to its online-only policy for the GR86, and for those of you who did fill in the ‘keep me updated’ form in 2022, it’ll be going through everyone in chronological order in ‘the spirit of fairness’.
Note that - as was the case when the GR86 launched in 2022 - there are no production numbers for us to go on. Our intel from Toyota suggests the reason for this is that it’s better not to make a big deal about its newly regained availableness when the car remains in such limited supply. Makes sense. It sucks, but it makes sense.
Clearly the only solution is for everyone to join the list immediately and convince Toyota that demand for the coupe is so high, only mass production will suffice…
