The Chery Tiggo 4 is a hybrid crossover that costs less than £20k
Chinese newcomer is £5k less than a hybridised Dacia Duster. Yikes
This is the Chery Tiggo 4. Now, we’re not really that interested in the Chery Tiggo 4, but we thought we ought to show it to you so that you can continue to recognise every single car on sale in the UK. We’ll be honest, that skill is getting trickier with every passing launch.
You see, the Tiggo 4 is not exactly the most dynamic or distinctive looking thing. Cheap though – we’re told that pre-orders are open now with prices starting at just £19,995. And for that you get a proper hybrid system with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 1.83kWh battery. Total output is 201bhp and 229lb ft of torque, although the claimed economy of 41.07mpg doesn’t look all that special.
Still, that sub-£20k price makes it more than £5,000 less than the Dacia Duster with its hybrid 155 powertrain, and almost a full £10k less than a hybridised Nissan Juke. Good grief.
From the images above it looks like you’ll get some proper physical buttons inside too, and there’s a separate climate panel so that those controls aren’t buried in the infotainment screen. Good news.
This is Chery’s fourth model on our shores, despite the fact it’s only been selling cars here for six months. And it comes with a fairly hefty seven-year/100,000-mile warranty. We’ve seen this playbook before, and it certainly didn’t go too badly for Kia and Hyundai…
