The heavily revamped Renault Captur is here, yours from £21,095

Props to Renault for the boldest mid-life revamp we’ve seen in quite a while

Published: 12 Jun 2024

The refreshed Renault Captur has finally hit the UK market, priced from £21,095. The facelift is pretty radical, there’s new can’t-be-seen-with-the-naked-eye tech upgrades and that price point is competitively low.

As with the Renault Clio  – which shares much of the gubbins and design points of the Captur – there are two powertrain choices: a 1.0-litre turbo petrol, or the full hybrid 145 powertrain. That’s Renaultspeak for a 1.6-litre four-pot petrol engine packaged with two electric motors and a 1.26kWh lithium battery. Renault claims that'll give drivers over 60mpg.

There’s now a choice of three trims: evolution, techno and esprit alpine. That last one tops out the range from £27,995 in hybrid guise.

The standard Captur evolution spec includes 17in alloys, rear privacy glass, automatic LED headlights, rear sensors and parking camera.

The cabin kit includes a fake-bovine steering wheel, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto integration, a 7in driver display and enough driver and safety assistance functions, like cruise control, traffic sign recognition and lane keep assist to count on all your fingers and toes.

Renault is keen to emphasise the updates to the OpenR Link infotainment system, which is based on Android Auto 12. It has Google built into the new 10.4in portrait centre display and, we're told, greater connectivity.

The techno trim features 18in wheels, roof bars and front sensors, too. The cabin gets fancier upholstery, a modular boot floor, ambient lighting, a 10.25in driver display and two USB-C ports in the back to keep passengers happy. The infotainment gets enhanced with Google’s Automotive Services and three different drive modes.

Topping out the range, the esprit Alpine has bigger wheels again and a contrasting roof colour on the outside. It also boasts sportier interior styling, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel and adaptive cruise control.

Order books are now open with first deliveries beginning in the summer. What do we think?
