Jeep Wrangler news - Four-door Wrangler unveiled - 2006

Published: 13 Apr 2006

Nope, your eyes are not deceiving you, this is a four-door Jeep Wrangler and it's coming to the UK in March 2007.

This is the first-ever Wrangler to have four doors and it will also be the first to offer a diesel engine, in a bid to improve sales across Europe.

The classic Wrangler looks remain, but inside there's proper space for two adults to sit in the rear and more boot space.

Jeep fans will be pleased to see the soft-top roof remains, so wind in the hair stays as an essential part of the Jeep experience.

A new 2.4-litre petrol engine will be fitted to the Wrangler, while improved aerodynamics are said to improve fuel economy and reduce cabin noise.

Other new features for the 2007 Wrangler are side airbags, electronic stability control and disc brakes all round.

Jeep is keen to point out that the stretched Wrangler remains a serious off-roader, complete with greater ground clearance than previous models' and an electrically disconnected sway bar to give great axle articulation over tricky terrain.

No prices have been announced for the four-door Wrangler, but expect them to be around £1,500 more than the current two-door's.
