‘Tuka’ is a 532bhp Chevrolet K5 sitting on a Toyota Tacoma’s chassis
Big V8, bespoke interior, clean lines: it can only be another Ringbrothers special
It looks like a normal Chevrolet K5, but something seems a bit... different, right? That’s because the tailgate and sides have been raised by two inches, and a few aesthetic bits have been pinched from more modern off-roaders to create Ringbrothers’ latest take on a classic workhorse. Meet ‘Tuka’.
There’s the rear window from a Jeep Wrangler and a hand-built, panoramic roof from a new Blazer, while the whole car sits on a third-generation Toyota Tacoma’s chassis. Other cosmetic changes include 18in bronze alloys and a fresh coat of ‘Galactic Black’ paint.
It’s equally impressive under that blistered bonnet, where a 532bhp 6.2-litre GM V8 sits and sends much noise out the back of a custom-built, Borla-tipped stainless steel exhaust. Naturally there's a new suspension setup, including upgraded shocks and control arms, along with six-piston brakes from Baer.
Tuka apparently took Ringbrothers over 3,700 hours to assemble, in part because the interior gets bespoke instrumentation, machine-billeted switchgear and a 3D-printed gear selector, handbrake and steering wheel. Among plenty of lovely other things. Very tasty.
Jim Ring, the co-owner of Ringerbrothers, said: “Tuka is distinct from the Blazers we’ve built before as it melds our knowledge on the platform with updated underpinnings creating our desired on and off-road vision. This is all about crafting something new and highly functional from a tried, true and familiar K5 that can be used daily, while no stranger to playing in the dirt.”
