The ‘Infected’ is Ringbrothers’ 817bhp, Plymouth Cuda-shaped tribute to Mopar
Includes: better brakes, tyres, suspension and diff, so handling should be… substantially different to the old one
You’ve probably heard of Ringbrothers by now; a small-scale, family-run business that specialises in modifying the life out of vintage cars. If you haven’t, firstly, where on earth have you been? Secondly, we’d like to introduce you to it with this: the ‘Infected’.
It's a 1970 Plymouth Cuda with an 817bhp supercharged Hemi V8, a six-speed manual gearbox, and a hotter-than-hot pink colour scheme that hails back to the glory days of Mopar. And no, despite the name, it’s probably not related to those ghastly things from The Last of Us.
But that engine probably does mean it travels at the incredible speeds of one, even when the going gets twisty. The modern chassis has a Wavetrac differential slotted at its core, with Fox RS coilovers, six-piston brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres per corner. Should be able to muster up a decent... ‘Ring lap too. Sorry.
Design-wise the original Cuda is a proper US poster car, with its stretched silhouette and minimalist cues. Ringbrothers has highlighted this by extending the wheelbase and tucking in the new, thinner bumpers for a sharper look.
The front grille is also made from a single piece of billet aluminium, and the lower splitter and rocker panels have been stretched to improve airflow. Or to allow it to do battle with rogue infected, because that carbon fibre bonnet looks suspiciously well-placed to help reduce impact damage.
Anyway, the interior gains gorgeous white leather upholstery, bespoke instrument clusters, gauges and switchgear, along with a carbon gear stick and steering wheel. There’s Apple CarPlay too, which should make it much easier to contact Joel Miller if necessary.
Ringbrothers co-owner, Jim Ring, said: “The Cuda has always been one of those cars we’ve been itching to build. The lines and proportions are the quintessential muscle car, so it is the perfect canvas to break new ground and highlight our in-house capabilities.
“The paintwork is a homage to Mopar’s colours of the ‘70s, albeit with a proprietary twist. We worked directly with our partners to create what we’re calling ‘Pink Eye’, a not-so-subtle nod to the Redeye engine.”
Long live the small-scale aftermarket tuners.
