Tuner Brabus has built an 887bhp, golden Mercedes S-Class
Unveiled at the Dubai motor show, it's the Rocket 900 Desert Gold
This is a modified car, and it has been unveiled at the Dubai International Motor Show. Therefore, car-industry logic dictates lots of gold must be present. May we humbly present, then, the 887bhp Brabus Rocket 900 Desert Gold Edition.
Somewhere underneath that golden exterior lies the heart of a Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG. And somewhere along the line, the 5.5-litre V12 was bored out to 6.3-litres, the pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft were changed to accommodate the extra size, and larger turbos were fitted.
To this you will find a bigger exhaust, a new air intake module with actual gold heat reflection material, a reprogrammed ECU and a set of numbers that’ll make your head spin more than a summer’s day in downtown Dubai.
Power now jumps to 887bhp. Torque stands rather tall at 1,106lb ft, buts it's artificially limited to 884lb ft to protect… well, everything, probably. 0-62mph takes 3.2 seconds. 0-124mph takes just 9.1. Top speed? Over 217mph. It's almost LaFerrari quick.
Best to take a look when it’s standing still, then. Or not. You’ll spot the new hue – carried over to 300 parts inside, too – along with black wheels (with gold stripes), and a new bodykit made from carbon.
Brabus deemed it prudent to fit a special control module for the air suspension, able to lower the car by 15mm, while a new limited-slip diff ensures heavy cornering is possible. Perhaps not advisable, but at least possible.
There is an inside, but we’ll present that without comment. You can check it out in the gallery above. Suffice to say, much leather and Alcantara was applied. And gold.
Why gold? Because Dubai, obviously. Whaddya think?
