This tuner wants to make your AMG G63 look like a 600 Grosser

Carlex Design comes over all retro with excellent wheels and two-tone paint

Published: 20 Sep 2024

Polish tuner Carlex Design has been looking to the past for inspiration, and it would seem as though someone in the team is a big fan of retro Mercs.

Although, instead of going down the restomod route like everyone else, Carlex has decided that what the world really needs is more modern-day AMG G63s with vintage styling cues. Just look at those 20-inch wheels! Aren’t they excellent?

Heck, maybe Mitsuoka was onto something all along?

Carlex says that its G63 Vintage is “a response to the prevailing trends of muscular, loud modifications” and that it now “embodies subtlety and classic style”.

Hmm, not sure we’d describe a bright orange two-tone V8 G Wagen that’s been lifted by 10cm and widened by 8cm as subtle, but we see what they’re getting at.

Apparently, those ‘chrome’ bumpers are actually painted carbon fibre, and the interior is completely retrimmed in nappa leather. Not a whole lot of subtlety going on in there either, is there? We’re liking the yacht-style wood in the boot though.

We’re told that the first G63 Vintage is in production right now, with the first customers set to receive their cars in March 2025. So, let’s say you have to have a modified G – would it be this or a Mansory-spec carbon fibre fever dream
