The £215k Lotus Emira GT4 is ready to go racing
Production begins on the lightweight race-spec Emira; gets heavyweight £215k price tag
The hotly anticipated Lotus Emira GT4 has finally entered production, with the fully homologated, race-ready sports car set to be delivered to its first new homes this summer. Better get those stickers ordered.
Announced back in 2021, the Emira GT4 has had its first 12 months of production fully accounted for for more than a year now. It’s being hand-built by racing specialists RML Group at a facility in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.
The car uses the same 3.5-litre V6 engine as the normal road car, but here power rises by 10 per cent to 455bhp, sent through a six-speed, paddleshift sequential gearbox.
Meanwhile the aero package has been optimised to suit all kinds of racetracks, claims Lotus, ranging from tight ‘n’ twisty stuff (think Monaco) to high-speed circuits.
Oh, and the braking system has been enhanced, as have the springs, damping and cooling packs.
"The Emira road car was such an excellent starting point for a GT4, and we’ve now further refined and tuned the package with the team at RML to create what we believe is a highly competitive and performance-oriented race car,” says Gavan Kershaw, director of vehicle attributes at Lotus and a former British GP Championship winner, no less. “We know our customers are keen to get behind the wheel and we’re looking forward to seeing their results.”
The price of the Emira GT4 lands at £179,000 plus tax and delivery, so you’re looking at about £215k in the UK; a mammoth uptake on the entry car’s current starting price of £77,795.
Still though, looks proper with a race livery doesn’t it?
