Rally driver Craig Breen has lost his life in an accident
The 33-year-old has tragically been killed in a testing event ahead of the Croatia Rally
Craig Breen - a nine-time podium finisher in the World Rally Championship - has died after an accident in preparation for next week’s Croatia Rally, Hyundai has announced.
An official statement read: “Hyundai Motorsport is deeply saddened to confirm that driver Craig Breen today lost his life following an accident during the pre-event test for Croatia Rally.
“Co-driver James Fulton was unharmed in the incident that occurred just after midday local time.
“Hyundai Motorsport sends its sincerest condolences to Craig’s family, friends and his many fans.
“Hyundai Motorsport will make no further comment at this time.”
The tragic news comes just two months after Breen’s most recent podium finish - second place at Rally Sweden in February - just missing out on an elusive first win 18.7 seconds behind Ott Tanak.
The Irishman had been a regular presence on the WRC circuit in recent years, competing on a part-time basis for Hyundai this season having left his full-time drive with M-Sport at the end of 2022.
Rest in peace, Craig.
