Pebble Beach 2018

The Heritage Edition Ford GT looks excellent

Limited-run GT gets a Gulf Oil livery. Becomes even more limited-run

Published: 29 Aug 2018

In perhaps the least surprising news to come out of this year’s Pebble Beach Concours, it turns out the Ford GT looks absolutely tremendous in Gulf colours. Whoever would have thought.

Conceived to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Gulf Oil-livered GTs that won the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1968 and ’69, the new ‘Heritage Edition’ GT also features more exposed carbon-fibre than the standard car, bespoke alloy wheels and silver mirror caps. Inside there’s much Alcantara, blue/orange stitching and anodized paddle-shifters.

Ford doesn’t say how many it’s going to build – but we’d guess quite a few, and demand will undoubtedly be high – just that the Heritage Edition will only be available for the 2019 and 2020 model years. For 2019 buyers can have exposed carbon accents with a number nine motif (after the ’68 race-winner), and for 2020 a number six motif (after the ’69 race-winner).

Of course, there’s little to stop an enterprising GT buyer doing this to their own car. But that wouldn’t sell for (as many) millions in a decade’s time. Or have a special little plaque.
