Good grief! This is a glorious DTM-spec Alfa Romeo 155 retromod with 740bhp
SGT Automobili has draped a Giulia Quadrifoglio in much carbon and turned up the wick on its V6
This is SGT Automobili’s 55-SGT, which is essentially a modern Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio dressed up in a boxy carbon suit to make it look like a 1990s DTM hero.
At least, we’re pretty sure it is, because SGT has been very careful not to name Alfa Romeo, the 155 V6 TI or the Giulia Quadrifoglio in its press release. Instead, we’re told tales of “an Italian manufacturer”, “a legendary DTM protagonist” and “an external-derived construction base”. Sneaky.
Pretty obvious that it’s a hot Giulia underneath though, isn’t it? That’s despite the fact that SGT has given it the styling of the 1996 155, which it says was “the highest aerodynamic evolution ever reached on that model”. It’s a pretty extreme bodykit, that’s for sure. It’s apparently made from a mix of carbon fibre, Kevlar and carbotanium, and the rear doors have been welded shut. Check out the size of that rear diffuser, too. Much of the aero is adjustable, but SGT quotes a maximum of 460kg of downforce at 143mph.
The 55-SGT will be available in both ‘Stradale’ and ‘Trofeo’ forms, with the former fully road legal and featuring three power maps for the Alfa’s 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6. Drivers will be able to switch between 513bhp, 552bhp and 612bhp. The Trofeo will be track-only with a terrifying 740bhp and 590lb ft of torque.
Both versions get custom exhaust setups, and SGT has even developed its own all-wheel drive system to get that power down. That’ll also be adjustable though, with the option of sending every last horsepower directly to the rear. The eight-speed ZF gearbox has been beefed up to cope, and there’s adjustable suspension with three further settings.
Inside, the driver’s seat has been moved rearwards, while the centre console features a stack of buttons and switches which are apparently similar in setup to the 90s DTM racer. Plenty of carbon in there too, plus a roll bar in the back. The Trofeo is apparently 100kg lighter than the Stradale.
The 20in forged centrelock wheels were designed for SGT by OZ Racing, and that’s about all we know for now. Oh, other than the fact that 55 examples of each version will be built. Still no word on the price, though…
