Sounds like there might be track-only versions of Boreham Motorworks’ new Ford RS200 and Mk1 Escort

Brit motorsports team Alan Mann Racing has joined Boreham Motorworks as its in-house high-performance division

Published: 20 Nov 2024

Remember Boreham Motorworks - the Brit company that’s set to reproduce officially licenced versions of the Ford RS200 rally car and the Mk1 Escort? Don’t worry, those cars are still coming, and they may now even get track-only, motorsport-spec versions too…

This is because Alan Mann Racing – the renowned racing team launched by Alan Mann himself in 1964 – has now joined Boreham Motorworks to act as the latter’s ‘in-house high-performance division’.

There’s not a huge amount of detail on what Alan Mann Racing will actually be doing for Boreham, but we are told that the partnership will “strengthen Alan Mann Racing’s offering and solidify its position as a leading force in the evolving world of motorsport and performance customer vehicles.”

Does that mean we’ll get stripped-out, track-only versions of the reborn RS200 and Mk1 Escort? Well, we won’t have to long to wait to find out. The first product from the collaboration will apparently be unveiled in early 2025. This could be exciting. Road legal and track-day spec RS200s? Yes please.

They should be fairly handy given the history of Alan Mann Racing, too. The Byfleet-based firm was part of Ford’s Total Performance programme in the 1960s and achieved success in touring car and endurance racing. It ran cars such as Cortinas, Escorts, Mustangs and even GT40s, and it dominated the 1968 British Saloon Car Championship with – you guessed it – a Mk1 Escort (well, after three races in a Cortina because the Escort wasn’t yet homologated).

“We are incredibly excited to join Boreham Motorworks as its high-performance division,” said Henry Mann, now Managing Director of Alan Mann Racing.

“This allows us to not only preserve and celebrate Alan Mann Racing's rich heritage but also to bring it into a new era of innovation and customer experience. Together, we’ll continue to honour the spirit of Ford’s motorsport legacy while delivering high-performance product, events and experiences that capture the passion of racing enthusiasts worldwide.”
