Take a minute to gawp at this pair of specially commissioned Jaguar E-Types

A client wanted two special cars, and this is what Jaguar came up with

Published: 23 Oct 2024

Jaguar wants you to “forget everything that’s gone before” in preparation for its electric-only future.

Turns out, some of its clients still very much remember what went before, because one of them asked very nicely if Jaguar Classic wouldn’t mind creating two ultimate, celebratory versions of A Car Enzo Ferrari Called The Most Beautiful©.

Welcome then, to the Jaguar E-Type Commemorative - a pair of Series I cars inspired by the original Commemorative Editions built to celebrate 50 years since the E-Type last rolled off the production line.

And these two built for said client, based in Southeast Asia, will be the only two E-Types created in this particular, expensive spec. So they are indeed special.

Especially since each carries Bridge of Weir tan leather seats, hand woven in Jag Classic’s workshop, an anodised aluminium centre console with an engraving of a Series I blueprint – very cool, actually – and custom jewellery made by Deakin & Francis. That’s England’s oldest jeweller, trading since 1786.

One of the drophead coupes is finished in green, the other in black, while underneath lies the Series I’s familiar 3.8-litre sixer, here treated to – gasp! – electronic fuel injection, and a Jaguar Classic five-speed manual. There’s also – double gasp! – a bluetooth radio and a heated windscreen.

“As the original creators of E-Type, we are uniquely positioned to subtly integrate both aesthetic and engineering enhancements borne out of decades of knowledge, skill and passion,” said JLR commercial boss Lennard Hoornik.

“The unique specification and our collaboration with renowned jewellers Deakin & Francis has resulted in a machine as close to driveable precious metal as it is possible to conceive.”

Precious, unforgettable metal, you might say.
